1. Do not throw your bandage dress in the washing machine and wash it the way that you do normal clothing! This can thin out the fabric.
2. Do not send it to a dry-cleaner that is unfamiliar with Herve Leger and rayon material clothes. Sometimes, the dry-cleaner will clean the dress with high heat and actually set a stain permanently, rather than remove stains. Some bandage dresses have special finishes, and dry cleaning can ruin them.
3. Bandage Dress ought to be tight. It is not uncommon to require assistance in zipping up. However, if the dress feels like it will tear at the seams, that’s NOT a good sign. Repeatedly wearing bandage dress that is too small will thin the material over time. If the dress is the appropriate size, multiple wears should not have an effect on the quality.
4. As with all clothing, there are certain stains that are just extremely difficult to remove. Don’t let a stain set either. If it gets a stain, the sooner you can wash it, the better!
**The following cleaning guide does NOT apply to bandage dresses with unique finishes like metallic coating
Spot Clean:
When there’s just a little spot that needs to be cleaned, wet the stained area with water. Then with a very mild soap, like face soap, rub a little bit into the wet spot. Do not wring or scrub. Rinse out. Lay out clothing flat and let air-dry.
Whole Dress Clean:
Option 1 (light-moderate clean): Dry Clean Sheets
Option 2 (thorough clean): Mix cold or room temperature water with a light soap like face soap or hand soap. Dip the entire garment into this. DO NOT SCRUB. Rub with your fingers (LIGHTLY) over the stained parts. After doing this, dip it a few times into the bath and finally rinse in cold water. Press the dress with your palms to get rid of excess water. Now, you need to dry the dress! Take some plastic bags and fit this on the inside of the dress, like the plastic bags are wearing the dress. Dry the garment in an open space with fresh air. If it’s placed in a closed space, the the garment can get moldy. Flip the dress every now and then so it’s not always resting on one side. It will take a long time to dry. Do not stretch or wring it while it is drying.
Option 3: Dry-cleaner. Just make sure that the dry-cleaner you go to has previous experience with such materials. Herve Leger and other bandage dresses are made of a rayon, nylon and spandex blend. Certain rayon can have low wet strength. This means that when this clothing is wet, it should not be wrung or stretched extensively, as it can ruin the fibers. Stains can also become permanent if it is treated with high heat.
